The Seeds of Evangelism
An original group of twenty-four Christians, most whom attended and identified with work at Mauldin Church of Christ (MCOC), saw an opportunity to further the Gospel in the area from Simpsonville to Five Forks to Gray Court, to Fork Shoals to Hickory tavern. The Mauldin congregation was near capacity on Sunday mornings and their leadership also identified this region as a mission field in South Carolina. Those twenty-four people set out in an evangelistic effort to preach Jesus to those who needed God’s Mercy, Grace, and Love.
The First Few Months
This start up plant congregation met on Sunday mornings from 10:30 A.M.-11:30 A.M. in the meeting room at the Hampton Inn Hotel in Simpsonville, SC. We often shared a meal with each other immediately following morning services, whether a potluck, or bring your own picnic style meal, or food together at a local restaurant; we ate and fellowshipped together. Immediately following our congregational meal, everyone returned to the same facilities at 1:00 P.M. to hold Bible classes for elementary school, middle school, and high school children as well as adults. This schedule allowed for a closer community of believers, plenty of opportunity for us to discuss the morning and afternoon lessons, and a time for community outreach together on Sunday afternoon/evening. One of these outreach programs was a singing and encouragement at the Fountain Inn Nursing and Convalescent Home. God blessed us in our study of the scriptures, a deeper love for each other, a stronger community of believers, friends and family.
